The Post Basic Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Nursing degree is a 2-year program designed for registered nurses who have completed a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma. This program aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of practicing nurses, enabling them to take on advanced roles in patient care and healthcare management. The curriculum includes subjects like advanced nursing practices, research, and community health. Through both theoretical learning and clinical training, graduates are prepared to deliver high-quality healthcare services. The degree opens up opportunities for career advancement, including leadership roles and further studies like M.Sc. Nursing.
In the first semester, students will build a solid foundation in nursing with courses in Advanced Anatomy and Physiology, which provide an in-depth understanding of the human body’s structure and functions. The Fundamentals of Nursing will cover basic nursing practices and patient care techniques, while Nursing Education and Research will introduce methodologies for evidence-based practice. Medical-surgical nursing focuses on the management of patients with surgical and medical conditions, and Communication and Professional Development emphasises essential skills for effective interaction and professional growth.
The second semester advances into specialised nursing fields, starting with Pediatric Nursing, which addresses the care of infants and children. Psychiatric Nursing explores mental health issues and treatment approaches, while Maternal and Child Health Nursing emphasises the care of women during pregnancy and childbirth, along with newborn care. Community Health Nursing expands the focus to public health and preventive care, and Pharmacology for Nursing covers the principles of drug administration and therapeutic effects.
In the third semester, students will delve into Nursing Management and Administration, learning about healthcare management and leadership roles. Advanced Clinical Nursing Skills will enhance practical abilities in complex clinical scenarios, and Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing emphasises integrating research findings into clinical decision-making. Nursing Informatics introduces the use of technology in nursing practice, and Research Methodology in Nursing provides foundational knowledge for conducting nursing research and contributing to the evidence base.
The fourth semester emphasises specialised areas of nursing care with courses in Specialty Nursing Care, which covers various nursing specialities.
